Encryption happens locally on your device using the Web Crypto API. The original file never leaves your browser — only encrypted ciphertext is uploaded.
Your passphrase derives a key locally via PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 (600,000 iterations, unique random salt per file), and the file is encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Each file's container carries its own salt, iteration count, and nonce.
No. We only store ciphertext. Without your passphrase the data is unreadable — even to us, and even under legal compulsion. This is how to protect your privacy online — with true zero-knowledge encryption.
The file cannot be recovered. We do not store, log, or transmit the passphrase. This is the trade-off of true end-to-end encryption.
